Vitiligo: Could You or Someone You Know Be Affected?
Vitiligo is a skin pigmentation disorder that causes white patches to appear on different parts of the body.
This disease is often accompanied by psychosocial distress and when cells that produce melanin die or stop functioning.
Vitiligo : Understanding the Loss of Skin Colour
Vitiligo is linked to high oxidative stress, which affects skin cells. It weakens the WNT pathway in melanocytes and keratinocytes, causing melanocytes to detach and disrupting the growth of new pigment-producing cells. This affects the skin’s ability to regenerate pigment.
Using antioxidants can help, but until now, no oral plant-based solution had shown proven results. A 2021 clinical study found that GliSODin® (a protected form of gliadin SOD) combined with narrowband UVB phototherapy helped reduce skin depigmentation effectively.
