Therapeutic Properties of Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus)

Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) consists of cap (pileus), stalk (stipe) and tuber (sclerotium). The structure of this mushroom is unusual as the cap and stalk emerges from the tuber under the ground, rather than from woody substrate. The cap and stem are woody while the tuber is a compacted mass of mycelium containing food reserves. The tuber is white in colour and gives a milk-like solution when dissolved in water. The tuber remains underground and contains high content of bioactive compounds with medicinal properties.

Research findings showed that the tuber of this mushroom is rich in polysaccharides (notably the (1,3)-(1,6)-beta-D-glucan), dietary fiber, proteins, essential amino acids, minerals and fatty acids. These biochemical compounds have contributed to its medicinal properties, including the immune-modulating activities, anti-asthmatic activity, anti-inflammatory property, anti-tumor activity, antioxidant and anti-microbial properties.

TigerPro™ Proprietary Cultivation Technology

In the past, Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) was only collected from the wild. This mushroom is scarce and grows solitary in the wild. In addition, the tuber of this mushroom remains under the ground, which makes the collection process of this mushroom even time and energy consuming. Now, there is threat of depletion of the wild harvest of this mushroom following the overharvesting and increased rate of deforestation and pollution in the tropical jungle. Nevertheless, large scale commercial cultivation of Tiger Milk Mushroom has overcome the supply problem.

TigerPro™ is a stable strain of Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) (NB08), cultivated indoor under the controlled environment. The “green” proprietary cultivation technology of TigerPro™ mimicking the natural growing process of tiger milk mushroom. The tuber produced is natural and organic, with >50% of beta-glucan. Large-scale cultivation of TigerPro™ ensures a consistent and sustainable premium quality supply.
